Memory is constantly recounted. Daily we relive experience confined in our own heads, or transfer these moments to others through storytelling. But ask yourself this, how often are our stories accurate, and just how much, over time do they morph and change in to something far more fantastical, or contrastingly, saddening?
My practice focuses on this recounting of memory, its inevitable distortion, and ultimately our inability to successfully project experience upon others. I am currently focusing on the year I spent living in North America and my struggle to share a multitude of life altering events. Using photo editing, embroidery and painting I render the same event in different mediums through a series of processes that mirror how we retell experience.
I have always been particularly fascinated with the medium of embroidery and its tactile nature. I am specifically interested in the way that it interacts with other mediums, and to what extent I can push it to become a versatile form of storytelling.
